Through the following services, foreigners may apply for the issuance of certificates related to nationality.

Certification of legal status in relation to nationality

This administrative service relates to those who have acquired Korean nationality or whose declaration of Korean nationality was accepted under the Nationality Act.

    • In cases where the agent files the application, a copy of the valid ID of the agent, certificate of power of attorney, and valid ID of the delegating person

Issuance of certification of legal status for the acquisition of Korean nationality

This administrative service relates to those who have acquired Korean nationality through permission for naturalization, etc. or whose declaration of Korean nationality was accepted under the Nationality Act.

Issuance of renouncement of foreign nationality

The renouncement of foreign nationality is an administrative service with which a person who obtained South Korean nationality may apply for the issuance of a certificate after visiting a competent immigration service or a branch office and going through procedures confirming such fact.

Issuance of confirmation of non-exercise of foreign nationality

The confirmation of non-exercise of foreign nationality is an administrative service in which a person who has obtained South Korean nationality applies for written confirmation from the Minister of Justice that the applicant has declined his/her right to exercise the foreign (non-Korean) nationality.
