Single-parent family support

• Qualifications

  Children under the age of 18 (in full) and their mother or father as a low-income, one parent family (below 52% of the reported median income).
  If the children are going to school after fulfilling military service in accordance with the Military Service Act, the period of military service is added to the minimum age.

  * Single-parent family certificate issuance qualification: below 60% of the median income

• Support details

  Childcare expenses

  • Children under 14 years old, assistance of 130,000 won monthly

  Additional childrearing expenses

  • For children raised by grandparents or a single parent (over 25 years old and not married), an additional 50,000 won is provided per child, if the child is less than a full 5 years old in age

  Child education expenses (school supplies)

  • Grant of 54,100 won per year for each middle or high school student

  Supplementary living allowance

  • Grant of 50,000 won per month for eligible single parent families

  ※ Assistance is not provided to families that are already receiving similar assistance under other legislation such as basic beneficiaries under the National Basic Living Security Act, etc.

• Qualifications

  The child’s mother or father is under the age of 24, and reported income is below 60% of the median income level.

• Support details

  Childrearing expenses

  • An amount of 350,000 won of monthly support is provided per child for a young one-parent family
  • Reported income is at or below 60% of the median income level (excluding beneficiaries of livelihood aid under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act)

  Study expenses for school qualification exams

  • 1,540,000 won of annual support is provided when a mother or a father of a young one-parent family studies for a qualification exam
  • Reported income is at or below 60% of the median income level (includes beneficiaries of livelihood aid under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act)

  High school tuitions

  • Support for admission fees and class expenses is provided for a mother or a father completing regular high school in a young one-parent family
  • Whose reported income is at between 53 and 60% of the median income level (excluding beneficiaries of livelihood aid under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act)

  Allowance for facilitating self-support

  • 100,000 won in monthly support is provided when a father or a mother of a young one-parent family engages in self-development activities such as study or employment and is also a beneficiary receiving livelihood aid under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act.
