Short-term programs
The following programs support the short-term training of outstanding students from countries sending highest number of students to Korea and countries in Asia, Africa, Central and South America, etc.
Program for students from major foreign countries
This program invites top students from the countries with the highest number of students in Korea and provides them with opportunities to better understand Korea and experience Korean culture.

- 60 outstanding university students from countries with the highest number of students studying in Korea (1st–50th ranking countries)
- 60 outstanding high school students from high schools offering Korean language courses

- 11 days

- Special lectures, visits to universities, visits to industrial complexes and cultural heritage sites, homestays, etc.

- Round-trip airfare, living expenses during the student’s stay in Korea, traveler's insurance

- How to apply
- Quotas are allocated by country, and participating students are recommended by Korean diplomatic missions overseas
Program for science and engineering students from ASEAN countries
The following program provides outstanding science and engineering students from Southeast Asian (ASEAN) countries with opportunities to study in Korea and experience its industrial development.

- Citizen of one of the 10 ASEAN countries
- Sophomore or higher in undergraduate science and engineering courses at a university in one of the 10 ASEAN countries
- Foreign student fluent in English or Korean

- 6 weeks (July–August)

- 120 undergraduate students in total

- Support details
- Airfare, room and board, insurance, training and program operation costs

- How to apply
- Apply directly to a designated training institution (publicly announced in March of each year)

- Eligible applicants
-
- Students enrolled in regular undergraduate courses at universities in applicable country
- a. Be a citizen of one of the 10 ASEAN countries*
* Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
- b. Be enrolled in the second to fourth year as an undergraduate student who majors in science or engineering in a university/college located in one of the 10 designated ASEAN countries
- c. Be fluent in either English or Korean
* Priority will be given to applicants with Korean fluency.
- d. Be mentally and physically healthy
- e. Have the ability and willingness to adapt to Korean culture and life in Korea

Program for African and Latin American students
The following program provides students from Africa and Latin America with opportunities to conduct in-depth academic research and experience Korean culture.

- National of an African or Latin American country
- Sophomore or higher in undergraduate course at a university in applicable country
- Able to communicate in English

- Program length
- 5 weeks (July–August)

- Number of participants
- 80 undergraduate students in total (40 from Africa, 40 from Latin America)

- Lectures, experiments, and training related to major
- Visits to related agencies, such as research institutes, industries, etc.
- Experience Korean culture and history

- Support details
- Training expenses, round-trip airfare, room and board, traveler’s insurance for the length of the program

- How to apply

- Participating universities are selected by the NIIED
- → Selected universities recommend candidates to the NIIED
- → Selected applicants are reviewed and selected by the NIIED
※ Priority will be given to the applicants with Korean fluency.
